Stateless Person

You can apply to stay in the UK as a stateless person if:

  • You’re not recognised as a citizen of any country
  • You’re unable to live permanently in any other country

You must include your partner and children under 18 (your ‘dependants’) in your application if they’re already in the UK with you.

You can normally stay in the UK for 5 years if you’re given permission to stay.

You must currently be in the UK to apply.

Fees

There is no Fee to apply

If you cannot return to another country because you fear persecution there, you should claim asylum first. You can apply for asylum support if you’re homeless or do not have money to buy food. You may be able to get housing and money to support you and your family while you’re waiting to find out if you’ll be given asylum.

If you’ve already claimed asylum or have an outstanding human rights claim, you must wait until you have a decision and can apply to stay as a stateless person if your application is refused.

If you require any further information or you would like to make an application to stay in the UK as a stateless person, please do not hesitate to contact one of our lawyers. The first consultation is free of charge.
